The Modern Day Goldrush


Our wired world presents a massive opportunity to anyone who has valuable information to share with a common audience.

Whilst there’s never been more competition for the attention of people, there has also never been a time when the barriers to getting that attention has been easier.

This means business success is no longer down to luck or meeting the right person, as in bygone days. Instead it’s more about your ability to identify, understand and meet the pressing concerns of a live community you genuinely feel you belong to.

All industries are getting more and more segmented and it’s going to continue to get even more nichey. As such, it is no longer solely about you. Though you will be getting the accolades, the day that you become recognised as a leader (of your niche) is the day you’ll have become 100 percent expert on one thing: your audience.

In the past "marketers" could just say their message often and loud enough and that would be your positioning, your branding and stuff like that.

Nowadays, that’s not going to work. All that resides in the conversation that’s happening outside your business – in your market, in your customers, in your prospects etc.

It’s fast becoming better to be on the front page of digg.com or stumbleupon.com right now, than to be in a newspaper. It can have more impact (a higher readership worldwide) as well as acting as a distinguished marker to show that the market is in line with what you’re thinking (as opposed to individual editors of a magazine or newspaper).

If you feel the call, simply listen to your inner voice. Embrace it and execute it.

This is the gold-rush of our generation and the opportunity to embed yourself in whatever niche you want to. Otherwise you’ll regret it when you see somebody, who is not as good as you in your genre, capitalizing and becoming the expert. You’ll regret it so much!
