Marketing Your Blog Talk Radio Show

Blog Talk Radio is popular amongst Mavens because it’s a free social platform that allows you to record guest interviews

Blog Talk Radio have just surveyed 200 hosts who are generating the most listens on their network to find out how they’re marketing their shows.

These were the results:

  1. Social Media Marketing: Facebook, Twitter, Cinch, MySpace and more.
  2. Regular email newsletter: An ideal vehicle to promote your show.
  3. BTR Player: Post it to your blog, website and social networking profiles.
  4. A unique, SEO-optimized show description. (Don’t use the same description for every episode.)
  5. Word of mouth. Ask your friends, colleagues, family and current listeners to help you spread the word about your show.
  6. Online forums, groups, message boards and communities where people who might be interested in your show congregate.
  7. Put out Press releases.
  8. Blog and write about topics that are complementary to your show.
  9. Connect with other hosts within the BTR host community.
  10. Make guest appearances on other BTR shows.

All good stuff right? BUT why is no-one taking the RSS feed and distributing that around RSS directories and social network profile pages?

And why not take the audio recording and repurpose that first as a transcript, then as a powerpoint presentation and then as a video.

Then syndicate all of these formats online?

Yes it’s a lot of work but it will sure focus your attention on making sure the calls are of top quality.

That’s the only way to make sure your BTR show grows and is worth the effort … week-after-week  …

Because here’s the other thing. Too many Mavens are involved in too many marketing tactics.

Far better to choose 2-3 mediums and do them REALLY well (e.g. get known and recognised for them) than juggle 9-10 BADLY (and receive limited attention!)
