Local Search is taking off and in a BIG way. By local search, I mean any search phrase that is related to a geographic location.
Ever since the introduction of Google Maps, Google has been out to create a “Yellow Pages on Steroids”. It’s clear that the convergence of maps, business information and search is very important to Google which means it’s equally important to you (the local business owner who wants to be found).
With so few local businesses currently optimised for local search, it can prove a real advantage right now. For example, I just typed in: Get Fit Rochester Kent and my fitness business comes up No1 out of 19,000 results with its own location map (pushing the other results down the page).

Plus Google’s latest algorithm change (last week) means it will be including more of these local search results in its main SERPs
So if you want to ensure your business too is listed optimally in Google Maps, I suggest your check out Google’s Local Business Center User Guide (incs tutorial videos) as it is designed to help you have more control in how your local business is listed.
Plus I’ve placed Wilf Barnes’ ebook: Local Search in the free area of my Lyons Den Membership Site.

Nice post Noel,
is it possible to submit multiple times for different keywords? I already rank #1 in local search for one keyword but would like to knock a couple over if possible.

With different domains you can Dan because If you type in – personal training rochester kent – you will see my personaltrainersonline.org site comes up (but more competition for that one). I’m writing a more detailed guide for personal trainers as we speak.
